Since John Reeves appeared on The Joe Rogan Experience in December there has been a large amount of news coverage devoted to the search for mammoth bones and tusks at the bottom of the East River.
Within days, several groups of bone hunters set out to try to find the valuable artifacts. Reeves claims that an entire boxcar of tusks and bones was sent to the American Museum of Natural History and subsequently dumped into the East River when they decided not to display them.
So why would adventurous people set out to try to find these bones? Reeves stated in the podcast: “Let me tell you something about mammoth bones, mammoth tusks – they’re extremely valuable.”
In 2017, a complete Woolly Mammoth skeleton was sold at auction for $645,000.
It makes sense that such an uproar was caused due to the potential value of finding some of these tusks and bones. Even a single tusk can fetch thousands.
